White Sands 2013

The top trend from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2013…

Last week saw hordes of skinny bikini-clad beauties parading their bronzed bodies up and down Miami Beach- no change there then.

No, nothing particularly unusual, but last week the spotlight was on swimwear thanks to Mercedes-Benz Swim Fashion Week.

Presenting their barely-there wares were over 2,000 brands, providing the world with a glimpse of what’s to come next summer. You name it, it was there, cut-out one pieces, check, itsy bitsy string bikinis, check, ruffles, tassels, pattern, print, check, check, check and check.

But the trend which has me rooting out the arm bands is the figure-flattering, multitude-of-sins-hiding, high waist.

Hurrah! At last, fuck you sit-ups, hello there pastries, if going by the bony and the beautiful, big panties are in.

High waists came thick and fast, with fine slimming stripes and retro blocking at L*Space by Monica Wise, and delicate florals and pretty ruffles from Australian label White Sands.

More daintiness came with a lingerie feel thanks to Agua Bendita, while the undoubtedly sexy designs at Brazilian (go figure) brand Poko Pano contrasted with the pure-white bird prints that adorned them.

For delightful pattern head to Luli Fama next year, whose scarf prints have more than a little D&G to them. But for the ultimate in busy beauty, queen of print Mara Hoffman is the lady to look up. Creating self-confessed ‘desert-boho-gypsies’ this brand’s intricate and bright Aztec designs are numero uno on the wish list.
